Flag Day Ceremony In Hoosick Falls

June 21, 2013 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson
The weather was perfect for Flag Day ceremonies at Post #40 American Legion headquarters in Hoosick Falls on Friday, June 14. Legion members, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and the Hoosick Falls Community Band were all part of the program. Guests were welcomed by Post Commander Bernie Guerard. Boy Scouts and Legion members together lowered the flag from its pole and folded it.
[private]Elks Club member Terri Burdick read the history of the flags of America. With each reading, a flag from that era was introduced, carried by a Boy Scout and held out for view by a Girl Scout. Interspersed with the flag displays was patriotic music played beautifully by the Band.
Town Supervisor Keith Cipperly and Hoosick Falls Mayor David Borge each spoke briefly, welcoming everyone and stating they were pleased to be part of such a special celebration.
At the close of the ceremony the flag was restored to the pole and a salute was fired by the American Legion Honor Guard.
Jerry McAuliffe was at the grill with hot dogs for everyone, along with chips and soft drinks.
