No Complaints About Petersburgh Roads

Petersburgh Supervisor Siegfried Krahforst and Highway Superintendent Ray Harrison held a meeting on Saturday, June 22, to allow anyone who had complaints about the Town’s roads to air them.
There were no complaints. Citizens present, other than the administration and this reporter, were Terry Neaton, Peter Schaaphok and Gene Kluck.
[private]Schaaphok is concerned about the state of Potter Hill Road. He said it is down to not much more than one lane in some places and the ditches are deep and steep in many spots. Harrison said seven culverts on that road need to be replaced and it’s going to take a significant  amount of time and money to get it repaired.
Other roads still in need of repair include Stewart Road, Phillips Road and Canfield Road and Deakin Road, which comes off Rabbit College Road not far from Rt. 22.  Weaver Dam Road and Hill Hollow Road are also in need of work but are not as bad as the first group.

Krahforst said he is looking for some emergency funding to pay for all this work but is not having much luck.
Terry Neaton, Chair of the Fire Commissioners and former Fire Chief, said that when Harrison is needed to deal with icy roads in the middle of the night on a fire call, “He’s always there.” Neaton said Harrison’s reliability in this regard is “much appreciated.”
Krahforst called on the citizens of Petersburgh to help keep ditches near their homes clear of garbage and debris because in the downpours which have become common lately such debris can get swept into culverts and plug them up, which can lead to dramatic road damage.
Detours
Concerning the closure of Route 2 on July 8, Harrison said East Hollow Road, the detour, is not in very good shape. It is a County road, so it is not under his purview. He’s hoping the State will come up and make some improvements to that road before the Rt. 2 closure brings extra traffic to it. In any case, he expects that trucks and other large vehicles will not be allowed to use East Hollow Road and will have to detour all the way around by Route 346 through Pownal, VT.
