The Firebird At The Petersburgh Public Library

June 14, 2013 By eastwickpress

The Petersburgh Public Library is kicking off its Summer Reading Program with a presentation of The Puppet People’s newest puppet production “The Firebird” on Thursday, June 27, at 7 pm. The program will be held at the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center.  Everyone is invited to join us for this wonderful show which is inspired by the Russian folktale and popular ballet The Firebird. Watch as even the impossible is possible, as the mythical firebird comes to life and Ivan and Princess Yelena team up to break the enchantment placed over their kingdom.  This 50 minute magical puppet fantasy features beautifully handcrafted marionettes, lavish costumes, vivid sets and a large body puppet masterly accompanied by Stravinsky’s musical score from the ballet The Firebird.
Petersburgh Public Library has begun sign up for the summer reading program.  Adults, teens and children are all invited to participate.  The first 100 people to sign up will be given a book bag to carry their books back and forth to the library.  There will be prizes for all the children and teens at the end of the summer.  For each book read by teens and adults they are invited to place an entry into a prize can.  On August 14 the winners names will be drawn and the prizes awarded as well as prizes to all children who completed the reading requirements.
On July 1 at 10:30 am there will be a “Dig Into Reading Magic Show” with Domino the Great who is NY’s favorite and sought after comedy magician and children’s entertainer. Everyone is invited to come for this most amazing show.
On Tuesday, July 2, at 11 am all preschoolers and their parents or care providers are encouraged to attend our “I Dig Gardening” Story Hour.  There will be stories, activities, crafts and a snack.
From 2 to 4 pm on Wednesday, July 3, children in grades k-6 are invited to stop by the Library to decorate a flower pot to take home with a flower.  All materials will be provided.
