Summer is here and improvements are underway throughout the Village. River Road is closed at the Route 22 end as improvements are made to the road and the Hoosic River bank. Tentative completion date is August 16. Hoosick Falls [private]Highway Superintendent Niel Stowell said water will be shut off to the Town Garage and one residence for three to four hours while the water line is replaced. Access to River Road is from Mechanic Street for the duration of the project.
Work is currently underway on Rogers Avenue, Walton, Willard, Hoosick and Nixon Streets to prepare them for paving on Friday, July 26. Danforth Street, Abbott Street extension and the Lyman and John Street intersection will be paved on Tuesday, July 30, if the weather holds. Electrical lines were installed in Wood Park on Wednesday to accommodate the new PA system, and the grass was mowed in time for the concert. Stowell said they are all caught up on overgrown lawns in the Village that have not been taken care of by property owners or banks that now own the properties. Several cases are pending in Court.

The grass in the Village Park and picnic area near the waterworks plant has been cut, and the nearby brook has been cleared of debris. There is the possibility that other Park improvements may be made in the near future. Improvements to that area make the nearby Riverwalk all the more appealing.
Across from the Park large mounds of soil indicate that work on the new Youth Football Field may soon be underway.
Hopefully the weather will be rain free, and all this work can be completed on schedule.
In the Town Park the tennis court looks terrific. The court now has a new bright green surface with the appropriate white lines.
The fountain in Monument Park at the corner of Classic Street and High Street is now up and running. This year it required a great deal of repair work. Much of that work was done in May by Ken Begin of Begin Welding. Interestingly, the Men’s Association of the Presbyterian Church built and presented that fountain to the Village on July 20, 1908. Near the fountain is a monument honoring Civil War soldiers.
Intersection
Improvements are not just taking place in the Village. Last Friday Dave Sutton and a crew from Suttonscapes and Hoosac School Headmaster Dean Foster and a crew from Hoosac spent hours laying screening and stone to beautify the intersection of Routes 7 and 22 in Hoosick.
