Mission Accomplished

July 19, 2013 By eastwickpress

Gabriella St. Hilaire wrote a letter to Hoosick Falls Mayor David Borge requesting he do something to improve the sidewalks in the Village. The Mayor invited Gabriella to a Board meeting where she read her letter aloud. The Mayor told her there would be some sidewalk improvements this summer, and he invited her to put her initials in the new cement. On Wednesday, July 3, early in the morning, Gabriella got to make a hand print and put her initials in the new sidewalk cement on the corner of Willard and Church Streets. She was assisted by Tracy Moore of T-Masonry and Building Services while Hoosick Falls Deputy Mayor Ric DiDonato looked on. Gabriella wrote the letter as part of a third grade class assignment. She was inspired to request sidewalk improvements because the day before she wrote, she tripped and fell on one of the Village's uneven sidewalks. Her family was on hand for her proud moment. And, as Mayor Borge told her at the meeting, "One person can really make a difference." (Bea Peterson photo)
