28th Annual Run For The Roses Held Under Blue Skies

August 16, 2013 By eastwickpress

by Liz Wagner, Park Naturalist
Brilliant sunshine and cool breezes welcomed runners for the 28th Annual Run for the Roses on Sunday, August 11. A benefit for the local Grafton Community Library, the race had 136 runners participate in the 5k. Their ages ranged from 8 to 72 and all completed the strenuous course. Fifteen youth participated in the Fun Run as well.  In addition, a Nature Walk was held to benefit the Courtney Carelli Literacy Foundation, with participants walking around picturesque Shaver Pond.

The first place male and female winners for the 5k were Joel Frist-Tift, age 25, with a time of 16:54, and Payton Czupil, age 14, with a time of 21:16.
The race is  a legacy of former Park Manager Tom Conklin.  His family was in attendance, including his daughter Sierra who ran in the race.
