BCS Seventh-Graders Attend Summer University Programs

August 2, 2013 By eastwickpress

Seventh-graders, Amanda Despart and Phillip Doin, will be attending University Programs for STEM initiatives.
Amanda has been selected to attend the Horizons Program at Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY.  One thousand middle-school students have been offered a chance to participate in interactive science and math camps at 20 university campuses nationwide this summer with support from Dr. Bernard A. Harris Jr., the first African American to walk in space, and the ExxonMobil Foundation.
Students attending the ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Summer Science Camps will test and develop their engineering and science prowess during daily activities that emphasize development of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills.
Students live on campus during the two week camp and participate in classes taught by university faculty, secondary school teachers and local STEM professionals. As part of the interactive, inquiry based curriculum, campers also enjoy the added benefit of exploring local museums, nature centers and ecosystems, allowing them to discover science at work in their communities.
