A Stephentown man who was arrested last September for stabbing his older brother has pleaded guilty and will be sentenced next week to prison. [private]Christopher Beckwith, 29, was arrested on September 24 by State Police for Assault in the first degree and criminal possession of a deadly weapon. On July 24 he pleaded guilty before Judge Debra Young to Assault in the second degree.
According to Rensselaer County Assistant District Attorney Kyle Petit, he is to be sentenced on August 14 to three years in state prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.
State Police said that they responded to a 911 call at about 4 am on September 24 at a Sutherland Road address. Their investigation revealed that Beckwith had gotten into an argument with his older brother and the argument escalated into a physical confrontation. Police said that Beckwith then stabbed his brother multiple times in the torso and arm. The brother was transported to Berkshire Medical Center. His injuries were found to be not life threatening, and he was released later in the day. Christopher Beckwith was arraigned in Stephentown Court and remanded to Rensselaer County Jail.[/private]
