Southern Vermont College has announced two new chairs of academic divisions, with Associate Professor of Marketing Stacey Hills, of Cherry Plain, becoming the Chair of The McCormick Division of Business this summer and Jennifer Burg being named the Chair of The Hunter Division of Humanities for the past semester. Both women bring a Ph.D. to their respective new positions and a combined 30 years of teaching experience at the college level.
[private]College Provost Al DeCiccio said, “SVC is very fortunate to have Jennifer and Stacey leading their divisions. Each brings abundant experience at an advanced rank from previous academic institutions. More importantly, each brings an energy and industry to our college as well as an understanding of the needs and promise of our students. I will enjoy working with them in the months and years ahead.”
Hills joined the SVC faculty in spring 2013. Previously she was on the marketing faculty at Utah State University for ten years and also served as Co-Director of the Huntsman Scholar Program.
“I am genuinely pleased to be returning to the area and to join the SVC family,” commented Hills. “We have great full time and adjunct faculty in the Division of Business, and we are already working on initiatives in technology and curriculum that will serve our students well as they graduate and move on in their careers.”
Earlier in her career, Hills was a marketing instructor at The College of Saint Rose in Albany following a two year, part time stint at RPI. Hills earned her doctorate in marketing and her MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Economics & International Studies from Russell Sage College.

She continues to consult for various companies.
Hills is a voracious speaker having delivered more than two dozen presentations in the U.S. and globally. She is the author of The Marketing Fundamentals Field Guide and is a member of the American Marketing Association, the International Studies Association and the Marketing Management Association, for which she was President from 2012-13.
Hills is a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of the USA and has served in various volunteer capacities over the last decade. She lives with her husband and daughter in Cherry Plain.
Prior to joining SVC last year as an Associate Professor of Humanities, Burg was on the faculty of the State University of New York at Potsdam. She has also been a member of the faculty of the University of Hawai’i at Hilo and Washington State University Vancouver.
As accomplished speaker and author, Burg has delivered various presentations across the country. She has written articles for publications including “Music in American Life: An Encyclopedia of the Songs, Styles, Stars, and Stories that Shaped our Culture” and “Cine-Matic Syntax: The Big Lebowski and the Neo-Classical Hollywood Style” which appeared in the Atlantic Journal of Communication’s January 2013 issue. She is a member of the Rhetoric Society of America, College Composition and Communication and the National Council of Teachers of English.[/private]
