Greeks And Geeks At Sand Lake Center for the Arts

August 2, 2013 By eastwickpress

The Sand Lake Center for the Arts Youth Theatre Players presents “Traveling Home with Greeks and Geeks,” a play written and directed by Sue Frost and Val Kavanaugh.
In this tale, students in detention find they have much in common with the hero of the book they are trying to understand. Both they and Odysseus just want to go home! Using their smart phones and their power of imagination, the students explore the dangerous, mysterious and sometimes comical world of the Cyclops, the witch Circe, the beautiful Sirens and Penelope’s treacherous suitors. Between fear and amazement, the students experience art on a very personal level.
This production is the culmination of a six week class for enthusiastic youth interested in acting and being involved with a full theater production. Performance dates are Friday, August 2, at 7 pm and Saturday, August 3, at 2:30 pm. Tickets cost $3, and reservations can be made at 518-674-2007 or www.slca-ctp.org. Due to renovations at SLCA this play is being held at The Church of the Covenant (round church) in Averill Park.

The youthful thespians at SLCA are: (first row) Victoria Whitney, Sammy Bonesteel, Caitlin Kerwin, Nessa Corcoran, Maeve Corcoran, Marie Parascondola; (second row) Fiona Carroll, Claire Stafford, Olivia Bonesteel, Anna Gras, Zoe Gras, Julia Hanlon, Hannah Warrender, Noah Bonesteel; (third row) Ryan Gutheil, Heidi Schuman, Alana Carroll, Thea Dimin, Angus McPherson and Samantha Legenbauer.
