Hoosick Falls Accident Closes River Street

August 23, 2013 By eastwickpress

by Steve Bradley
At 9:30 Wednesday morning inspectors had the northbound lane of the Hoosick Falls River Street Bridge closed due to an ongoing inspection. With sign flaggers at both ends of the bridge, traffic was alternating crossing. [private]While the northbound traffic flagger had the stop sign out, a New York registered burgundy Buick drove around a stopped truck and past the flagman onto the bridge and into oncoming southbound traffic.
A Vermont registered SUV dove into the empty northbound lane, getting side-swiped by the Buick. The Buick then drove into a New York registered gray car that was behind the SUV. Until the SUV dove out of the lane, the driver of the gray car had no idea the Buick was in the lane, and the two cars met directly head-on.
The three drivers were not seriously hurt. A female passenger in the Buick was removed from the car and transported by the Hoosick Rescue Squad rescue squad for care.

The driver of this burgundy Buick, being attended to here by members of the Hoosick Rescue Squad, ignored a traffic flagger Wednesday morning and crashed head on into a car in the opposite lane. (Steve Bradley photo)
