Marie A. Sweet

Grafton – Marie A. (Schermerhorn) Sweet of Grafton, NY, died on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY, after a brief illness.
Born on July 28, 1930, Marie was the daughter of the late Mildred and Henry Schermerhorn and the wife of the late Rufus C. Sweet. She was a life long resident of Grafton, educated in Grafton’s Toad Point one room school, and she attended the Walter A. Wood High School in Hoosick Falls, NY.
ob-Sweet.picShe was a wonderful homemaker, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, lovingly known to her grandchildren as “Nannie.” She loved the color red, wearing dangling earrings, tending to her home and working in flower gardens. She was a member of the Grafton Baptist Church and the Grafton Merry Maker Seniors with whom she enjoyed many bus trips and social events.
Marie is survived by her children, Wanda Church and Keith and his wife Leanna Sweet, her grandchildren, Dion Church and wife Jennifer and Devin Church and Kyle and Kevin Sweet, all of Grafton, her sister, Ruth Carroll, her brother-in-law and special friend, Ed Schultz, her cousin, friend and 20+ year companion, Beulah Vars, seven great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Her sisters, Emily Schermerhorn and Mabel Schultz, and her son-in-law, Steven Church, predeceased her.
Marie’s funeral service was held Tuesday, August 20, at 7:15 pm at the Grafton Baptist Church with Rev. Jason White officiating. Relatives and friends called at the Church on Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm prior to the service. Burial will be held privately in the Grafton Center Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to either the Grafton Baptist Church, 11 Owen Road, Grafton, NY, 12082, or the Grafton Volunteer Rescue Squad, 2379 State Route 2, Grafton, NY, 12082.
Funeral Service details were under the direction of the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc. located in Raymertown, NY.
