The Town of Hoosick Republican Committee held its caucus recently to select candidates for the November 5 election. The committee will run incumbent Keith Cipperly for Town Supervisor for a third term. Incumbent Jeff Wysocki and a newcomer, Joyce Brewer, were voted in to run for the two Town Council seats.
[private]The nomination for incumbents Cipperly and Wysocki was made based on the fact that they have proven to be successful in maintaining and holding the tax line while increasing the balance fund. They supported HAYC3 in acquiring the Armory, and they have voted to make changes to the Town zoning laws to allow businesses opening in the area.
The nomination for Brewer was made due to her strong involvement and love for the community and for her dedication as a volunteer. She will bring her financial experience and her grant writing experience to the Board as well. All attending the caucus felt the three will work hard to keep taxes affordable, support and assist with business growth, discourage government intrusion, prevent wasteful spending and keep an open communication, working with honesty and integrity.
Louis Schmigel will seek re-election for Superintendent of Highways. Schmigel was voted in last Fall to fill the unexpired term of Bill Shiland after his retirement. Schmigel worked hard with the acting superintendent to secure grant money which would have been a huge tax burden on the residents of the Town if not done. Schmigel did a great job with a white, slippery winter and a wet, muddy Spring. He has maintained the roads, keeping them safe for the residents and families of Hoosick, and therefore was nominated and voted in unanimously.
Completing the Republican slate for election this Fall are two strong incumbents, Sue Stradinger for Town Clerk and Thomas Restino Jr. for Town Justice.
Those attending the caucus feel they have a good solid team to work for the residents of the town; the only team the taxpayers can afford to have in office.
