September 27, 2013 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson
According to a press release from Byron Viggiani of the NYS DOT, motorists are advised that the Route 67 bridge over the Hoosic River, locally known as the Eagle Bridge, in the hamlet of Eagle Bridge, Town of Hoosick, has been reduced to one alternating lane of traffic. [private]Traffic will be controlled by signals at both ends of the bridge and at nearby River Road and Old State Road, both on the east side of the bridge.

Viggiani said that the Eagle Bridge underwent a project in 2011, which included replacing the deck (the driving surface) and painting the steel. A recent bridge inspection revealed the need for the steel repair on the underside of the bridge, which is the work going on now. The work will take about a month to complete. He added that the painting from 2011 helped reveal the need for this latest work.
Viggiani further noted that every bridge in New York State is inspected every two years; more frequently if problems are found. New York State’s bridge inspection program is one of the most aggressive in the nation and is designed to find and lead to corrections of any issues that are found, he said. He added that the information he has states that the Eagle Bridge was built in 1933.
