Beautiful Day For A Cow Plop And A Car Show

October 18, 2013 By eastwickpress

Sunday, October 13, was a picture perfect Autumn day. The ideal weather brought a huge crowd of kids and adults to the Hoosick Athletic Field for the Annual St. Mary’s Academy Cow Plop. It also bought out more than 100 antique, and not so antique, automobiles. [private]The display of shiny cars was impressive. Some folks lamented it was difficult to choose the best one as all of them were deserving of being called the best. In the end the participants selected a 1964 Chevy Malibu SS Coupe owned by Jim and Brenda Rosenberry of

Albany as the Best in Show.
The beautiful day gave the youngsters a chance to ride in a barrel train or a hay wagon or jump in the bouncy bounce or participate in the many other games and craft projects available to them. The adults visited, chatted with all the local politicians and participated in raffles. There was also plenty of good food to be tried by everyone.
The excitement doesn’t begin until all the squares on the paper grid are sold, and that takes time. Eventually the cow and her calf,  supplied by Bruce Church, were led onto the field grid. And the waiting began. Some folks hovered near the row with their number in it, others wandered close by. Some folks sat in bleachers – just waiting. Waiting for the cow to plop. Well, of course, eventually she did and so did her calf. The $1,000 winning cow plop square belonged to Dottie LaCroix. The $250 calf plop square belonged to Jim and Julie Lynch.
Again this year the event was a huge fundraising success for the School.
