Petersburgh – C. Fred Giroux, Jr., 66, died Saturday, September 28, 2013, at Albany Medical Center from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Grafton, NY.
Born in Schenectady, NY, on October 31, 1946, he was the son of the late Frederick Giroux, Sr. of Schenectady and the late Isabelle Denett Sherman of Elizabethtown, NY. He was raised and educated in Schenectady. He worked as a carpenter in Colorado and in a sock mill in North Carolina. He was employed by Jackson Demolition in Schenectady as a heavy equipment operator for over 20 years before retiring in 2005. He resided in Niskayuna, NY, for many years before moving to Petersburgh, NY, in 2007 following his marriage.
Fred loved spending time with his family and enjoyed telling stories. He enjoyed spending time outside watching the wildlife in his backyard, including deer and the occasional bear. His new grandson Mason brought him many hours of enjoyment.
He was the beloved husband of Phyllis A. Minkler Fowler Giroux, whom he married on October 27, 2007, the father of Kelly Giroux and Tammy Giroux-Williamson and her husband Charles, all of Colorado, the step-father of Amy and husband Mark Durham and Roy and wife Deidre Fowler, all of Petersburgh, the grandfather of Jared and Kyle Brown, Ryan Osborn, Ace Williamson and Mason Fowler, the brother of Barbara Farley of Newton, NC, the late Wilfred Giroux of Scotia, NY, and the late David Giroux of Brody, TX, the son-in-law of Shirley Minkler of Petersburgh and the brother-in-law of Curtis and wife Linda Minkler, Jr. of Hoosick Falls, NY.
A private funeral service will be held for the immediate family only. Arrangements are under the direction of the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home in Petersburgh.
