HF Boy Scout Troop 63 Rescues Flags

October 11, 2013 By eastwickpress

submitted by Bernard Davock
A water line broke in the American Legion Post 40 building on Main Street in Hoosick Falls recently.  Members of the Legion found that water was spraying all over the basement, and the water was about 2 feet deep.  A lot of property was soaking wet and in danger of being destroyed.  [private]Legion member Ike Powers asked Hoosick Falls Troop 63 if they could spare some time to help save some history.  Along with the pictures and certificates that were set out to dry the boys helped Member Corey Marchegiani remove about 1,500 flags from the cellar.  All these flags were unfurled and placed in the ground.  It took about two hours for the flags to dry and then the scouts picked them all up and rolled them and placed them into new boxes to be used in ceremonies and placed on graves of Veterans in the future.
American Legion members were concerned about getting the building clean and ready for an upcoming open house next month.  Legion members will have an open house for Veterans day in November  any past members of the armed forces who wish to join should see any member or come to the open house.
Also, Troop 63 is inviting any boy interested in joining the Troop to attend their meetings on Monday at 6:30 pm in the basement of the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street.
