Homecoming Without Football?

October 18, 2013 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson
A Hoosick Falls Central School homecoming weekend without football is like a hot dog without mustard or a winter without snow. It’s not the end of the world; it’s just not the same.
[private]And that is what happened last Friday, October 11. The chicken barbecue planned for that Friday was a big success. Throughout the week students and faculty collected more than a 1,000 pounds of food to fill a school bus for the HACA Food Closet. Everyone at the Homecoming Dance Saturday had a great time. Friday evening, however, was a bust.
According to Athletic Director Tom Husser, Hoosick Falls was notified at 5 pm on Thursday that Catholic Central did not have enough team numbers to participate in a football game against Hoosick Falls. At that late date  it was impossible to schedule another game. “Had we had a head’s up earlier in the week,” said Husser, “we might have been able to put something together, but not that late.”
Plans were big for that home game. It was to be Senior Night. The local Fire Departments and the Rescue Squad were prepared to honor players that are junior members of their Departments. Didn’t happen. Several people have commented on how disappointed the team was.
But all is not lost. Coach Ron Jones said, “The forfeiture insured that we would have a home playoff game.”
Next Home Game
On Friday, October 25, the team will play at home in the first round of the play offs against an opponent to be determined. The Seniors will be honored on their home field. It’s not homecoming weekend, but the Seniors will get their due. And there will be another bus to fill for the Food Closet.[/private]
