from the Hoosick Town Supervisor
On September 29, 2013, Town Supervisor Keith Cipperly filed his 2014 Town of Hoosick Tentative Budget with the Town Clerk. The tentative budget submitted proposes an overall reduction in property taxes by 1.51% for 2014. [private]An overall tax reduction in the collection of property taxes of over $22,000 is included in the 2014 Budget. The decrease involves the four main funds and three fire protection districts under the Town of Hoosick’s taxing jurisdiction.
Cipperly stated: “By holding the line on expenses in most of the budget categories, coupled with the recent property value growth, our residents will finally experience an actual reduction in town and highway property taxes in 2014 if the budget is adopted.”
“One of the major factors that contributed to the decreased tax proposal was the added business growth to our tax base. By adding the property values onto the books, it enables the town to spread expenses over a larger tax base and reduces the tax liability of the residents,” said Cipperly.
“With hard economic times, my priority was to present a budget without increasing taxes for residents. I am pleased to propose, that even though the tentative budget reduces taxes, budgetary amounts allotted for our youth, senior and ambulance services have been recommended for increases,” stated Cipperly.
Cipperly concluded, “In a year when many towns, cities and villages will be experiencing property tax increases, I am proud to present a budget that proposes to reduce the tax burden for our residents.”[/private]
