Panther Field Hockey Season Ends In Regionals

November 15, 2013 By eastwickpress

by Steve Bradley

The HFCS field hockey team made the long trip out to Cicero, just north of Syracuse, to face the Cazenovia Lakers last Saturday on a brisk day. Cazenovia grabbed a 2 – 0 halftime lead and held the high powered Panther offense scoreless to take the win. The Panthers had several opportunities to score but were unable to get the ball past the opponent’s goalkeeper.

Even though the Panthers came home without the “W,” it doesn’t take away anything from what they accomplished. The team ended the season with a 19 – 1 record. They dominated most opponents, holding many scoreless. They outscored their opponents, 93 – 7. Liz Ryan set a new HFCS season scoring record  with 26. Five players scored 10 or more goals. This team scored more goals than any other team in HFCS history, 91. Next closest is the 1990 team with 78. Carsen Williams, Liz Ryan, Olivia Schneider are the one, two and three single season assist leaders in HFCS history.

Leaving the team after five years as a varsity starter will be Carsen Williams. Carsen has been team captain and one of the most accomplished players in the history of HFCS field hockey. In 2011, Carsen made the All NYS team. In 2009 she was an integral part of the State semi-final game team. She is a four year scholar athlete and has too many awards and highlights to mention them all. Thanks, Carsen, and good luck.

The team has a great nucleus in place for years to come. Liz Ryan and Allyson Burdick are freshman, Caytlyn Springer and Erika Quackenbush are sophomores. Juniors Maddy Ryan, Lindsey McMahon and Zaynah Poore will be returning.

The future looks very bright for the Panther field hockey team.
