Petersburgh – Christine Judge Harris, age 107, died Thursday, December 5, 2013, at the Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls. Born in Cologne, Germany, on November 17, 1906, she was the daughter of the late Josef and Catharina Schmitz Rymus. She attended Ursula Sister Convent and later the Cologne Conservatory, where she studied music.
In 1934, Christine emigrated to the United States and settled in New York City. On May 27, 1939, she became a U.S. citizen. Christine was employed at Rockefeller Center in New York as a hostess. Following her marriage, she moved to Upper Montclair, NJ, where she lived for many years. In 1961, she was president of St. Vincent’s Hospital Auxiliary. She moved to Petersburgh, NY, to live with her nephew in 2007 and had resided in Hoosick Falls, NY, for the last 2½ years.
Christine was the wife of the late William Judge and John J. Harris, aunt of Siegfried and wife Marianne Krahforst of Petersburgh and Juliana Hambidzer of Wessling, Germany, great-aunt of Benedikt S. Krahforst of Petersburgh, Christian F. Krahforst of Hull, MA, Susanna Jones of New Boston, NH. and Anna Lang of Canaan, NY.
Friends were invited to attend her funeral Mass on Tuesday, December 10, at 9 am at the Sacred Heart Church, 27 Main Street, Berlin, NY. Interment followed in the Meadowlawn Cemetery in Petersburgh. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Snow Parish, P.O. Box 234, Grafton, NY, 12082.
