John Greene

Eagle Bridge – John Greene, 73, a former resident of Easton, NY, died on Friday, December 13, 2013, at his home on Beck Road, Eagle Bridge, NY, after a short illness of pancreatic cancer.

ob-John GreeneBorn February 19, 1940, in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late Forrest Greene and Anne Beck Greene. He was raised on Beck Road, Eagle Bridge, and attended school at St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls, NY. He later received his GED from Hoosick Falls Central School. He met his wife, Kathleen Weir Greene, at a square dance and they married on July 9, 1961.

John worked the family farm for a while and then held various jobs over the years, working for Bryce Beverage and Greenwich Feed Store, hauling milk in the Easton and Schaghticoke area for Dairylea, for the Easton Highway Department, as an owner-operator for Refrigerated Foods Express and for Air Products & Chemicals in Glenmont, NY, until retirement. He kept busy throughout retirement with woodworking, making maple syrup, gathering firewood and making repairs and improvements on the family farm. He worked at the Washington County Fair at Gate 4 for nearly 20 years and enjoyed meeting friends each year at the end of August.

In addition to his parents, he is pre-deceased by his son, David Greene, and a brother, Gene Greene. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Greene, and four sons and their spouses, Forrest and Melissa Ernst of Gansevoort, NY, Richard and Karen Debonis of Granby, CT, Steven and Susan Imhof of Cambridge, NY, Kevin and Shawna Herrick of Greenwich, NY, grandchildren, Kaitlin, Shannon and Kirsten Greene of Granby, Adam and Logan Greene of Greenwich, Rebecca Greene of Colorado and Cassandra Greene of Cambridge, and a sister, Gail Dobert of West Sand Lake, NY.

Funeral services were Monday, December 16, at 10 am from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial followed the service at the Easton Cemetery, Easton, NY. Relatives and friends called at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 5 pm.
