The Hoosick Falls Community Band under the direction of Bill Gaillard will present its 31st annual Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 18, at 7:30 pm. The first concert was initiated by the late Rev. Robert Sprunger who was pastor and clarinet player at that time. The concerts have continued since. The location is the First United Presbyterian Church in Hoosick Falls.
The Hoosick Falls Community Band is a continuation of a band started in 1873 and whose conductor was Henderson S. Van Surdam, who retired in 1938. Since then the band has had various conductors with the current conductor starting in 1965. At that time the band was known as the Van Surdam Band. Two new selections have been added for this season’s program – “Blue Christmas” and “The Polar Express.” Other selections include “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas,” “The Most Wonderful Time of The Year,” “Cantique de Noel,” Christmas Favorites, “We Three Kings,” “Over The River,” “White Christmas” and “I’ll Be Home For Christmas.” There will be a sing-a-long and “God Bless America” with vocalist Judy Hoag.
The band rehearses two to three times monthly and performs eight Wood Park concerts, Flag Day at the Legion Post and the Memorial Day Parade. The public is cordially invited to a fine seasonal program with a reception following.
