Buskirk Ice Jam

January 17, 2014 By eastwickpress

The heavy rain and melting snow last weekend broke up and set free the ice in almost the entire 70 mile length of the Hoosic River. The result was much of that ice became lodged around the historic Buskirk Bridge. For almost one half mile on either side of the bridge, ice filled the entire river channel. With the river at flood stage, the road leading up to the bridge from Route 67 on the Rensselaer County side, along with River Road from Eagle Bridge, was underwater. As the water receded, chunks of ice were left in roads and fields. The bridge was closed for days. (Steve Bradley photo)
