Cellist Paul De Jong To Perform At The New Lebanon Library

January 10, 2014 By eastwickpress

Internationally renowned cellist Paul de Jong will perform at the New Lebanon Library on January 17 from 7 to 8:30 pm. The program is free and open to the public, although donations for the performer are appreciated.

Born into a musical family in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, de Jong received his first cello lesson on his sixth birthday. He studied at the University of Illinois and the Manhattan School of  Music and taught, performed and composed in New York City. In 2000, he co-founded his band The Books and gained wide international acclaim with four albums and multi-media oriented live shows. After more than six years of intensive worldwide touring de Jong is now concentrating on a more local professional lifestyle revolving around his young family rooted in New Lebanon.

Mr. de Jong continues to explore and perform classical repertoire as well as create compositions for electronic media and cello. Improvisation often plays an important part in the creation and performance of his work. In his performance at the Library he will include classical and traditional pieces for solo cello and some of his own arrangements and compositions.

The New Lebanon Library is located at 550 State Route 20, New Lebanon, just north of the yellow blinking light. For further information, contact the Library at 518-794-8844.
