Edith May Hunt

West Sand Lake – Edith May Hunt, 89, of Springer Road, West Sand Lake, NY, died Saturday, December 21, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

ob-huntedithEdith May Face was born in East Nassau, NY, on May 28, 1924, to the late Earlston and Inez Homes Face. She was the wife, for 68 years, of the late Jerome Griffin Hunt. In the summer of 1941 Edith and Jerome fell in love when they attended a square dance with family and friends. They were married on December 8, 1945, and were blessed with six children.

Growing up, Edith lived on Hayes Road in East Nassau until the family moved to Stottville, NY, where Edith’s mother, Inez, was employed at the Stottville Wollen Mills as a skilled woolen weaver. Edith went to Stottville Grammar School and graduated from Hudson High School during the summer of 1942. After graduation Edith went to work for Montgomery Ward in Albany, NY, as a secretary. During World War II Edith went to work as a secretary for Cluett Peabody in Troy, NY, which made Arrow shirts and neckties. She then went to work for Faith Mills in Averill Park, NY, as a bookkeeper. She was a teacher at Liberty Christian School in West Sand Lake. Mrs. Hunt was a bookkeeper for her husband at Ackner Hunt Sand and Gravel.

Edith was a member of the Grafton Baptist Church and the Alps Baptist Church in which she was a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. She attended Wednesday night prayer meetings. She was an avid reader, wrote poetry, was an excellent cook, and she loved to bake, work in her garden and spend time with her family.

Survivors include her children, Gary Alan and wife Beverly Hunt of West Columbia, TX, Joel Boyd and wife Judy Hunt of Stephentown, NY, Brian Dale and wife Diane Hunt of West Sand Lake, Dawn Marie Hunt-Bucci of West Sand Lake and Jan Lynn Hunt and husband Henry Tanner III of Berlin, NY, 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her son, Jerome Bruce Hunt, and a sister, Ruth Oliver.

Relatives and friends called at the West Stephentown Baptist Church, 1672 Route 43, West Stephentown, NY, on Saturday, December 28, from 11 am to 1 pm. A funeral service followed with Rev. Thomas Fox and Rev. Jason White, officiating.

Interment will be in East Nassau Rural Cemetery, East Nassau.

The family gives special thanks to Chelsea Tomlinson and Mrs. Cheryl Walthers for their kindness. They are grateful to Dr. Rommel Tolentino M.D., Nathan J. Gardner P.A. and the entire staff at The Community Care Physician P.C. of Schodack, NY, for their years of compassionate excellent medical care.
