Panther Girls Basketball Loses One And Wins One

January 17, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Steve Bradley

The Panther Ladies basketball team played the always tough Hoosic Valley Indians last Friday evening in the Panther Den. Hoosic Valley, with its trademark defense, is never an easy win for any team, and this night would be no different.

The Panthers held their own in the first quarter, which ended at 15 – 11. The Indians began to pull away before the half, outscoring the Panthers 15 – 8, with the halftime score at 30 – 19. From there, even though the Panthers outscored the Indians 7  – 4 in the third, the Indians pulled away in the fourth quarter. The Indians headed home with a 50 – 35 win. Rachel Pine ended the night as high scorer for the Panthers with 12.

On Wednesday evening the Panthers took on the Granville Ladies Golden Horde on the HFCS court. The Golden Horde got out of the gate scoring the first point of the game, and that was the highlight of the evening for them. Things for the Horde went from good to terrible. Panther Rachel Pine hit three three-pointers, and the Panthers blasted out to a 17 – 1 lead. From there the Golden Horde were massacred. Behind 37 – 6 at the half, their game was over. The Panthers, with all players getting plenty of playing time, cruised to a 67 – 23 win. Rachel Pine scored 14 points, and Megan Flynn added 10. Hannah Lilac added 2 points.

Coming up, the Ladies travel to Tamarac on Friday, January 17. On Wednesday, January 22, the Panthers will host Schuylerville on the HFCS court.
