Hoosick/Bennington – Beverly (Bev) Ann Flynn, a resident of Walloomsac, NY, and most recently of the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center (BHR) in Bennington, VT, died peacefully Thursday night, February 13, 2014. Born on February 5, 1939, she was the third and youngest daughter of the late Robert and Audria (Lynch) Barnes.
Bev married Edward “Pete” Flynn on May 20, 1961, and together they raised five children, Elizabeth and husband Rick Ferrannini of Hoosick Falls, NY, Karen and husband Bob Elwell of White Creek, NY, Eileen and husband Patrick Bakaitis of Hoosick Falls, Andrea and husband Pete White of Bennington and Patrick and wife Lera Flynn of Laurinburg, NC.
Bev received her education in Bennington and worked at the former Tansitor Electronics of Bennington, the Ben Franklin Store in Hoosick Falls and retired from Stanley Tools Inc. in Shaftsbury, VT. After retirement she enjoyed working at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls, formerly the Hoosick Falls Health Center, and various other part time jobs. Bev’s favorite things to do were to dance, especially the jitterbug, and assemble puzzles, until her disease took this ability away from her. Bev lived for several years with a rare neurological disease, Corticobasal Degeneration, an atypical Parkinson’s syndrome.
Bev was an example of how to live gracefully and with dignity despite the many hardships she endured. Pete was taken from their lives on April 13, 1985. Although Bev lost her love tragically, she was able to find happiness again when she met Gilbert “Bud” Mattison of Bennington with whom she made her home for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her “adopted” Mattison family.
Bev was blessed with ten grandchildren, Amie and husband Brad Cone, Christina Wendel, Edward and wife Emily Ferrannini, Gregory Stroffoleno, Ben White, Adam Ferrannini, Samantha Bakaitis, Kiera Flynn, Jacob Bakaitis and Sean Flynn and three great-grandchildren, Karley Elwell, Brayden Ferrannini and Michael McKenzie. Bev leaves behind her beloved sister, Patricia Sparks. In addition to her many nieces and nephews, Bev leaves many in-laws whom she loved dearly. Among those to welcome her home will be her husband, parents and her sister S. Maureen McCutcheon.
Bev and her family are forever grateful to Danielle Holbrook and Bev’s sister-in-law and friend, Patricia Flynn, whose dedication to mom allowed her to stay at home until a few months before her passing. At Bev’s request there will be no calling hours or funeral services however all are invited to attend a graveside service at 1 pm on Friday, February 21, at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls and join the family in celebrating Bev’s life at the home of Patrick and Eileen Bakaitis at 5469 State Route 67, Hoosick, NY.
A special thank you to the nurses and aides at BHR who took special care of our mother. If friends desire, they may send donations in memory of Beverly A. Flynn to the Karen McGovern Fund, CurePSP, 30 E. Padonia Road, Suite 201, Timonium, MD, 21093 (htttp://www.psp.org/) or to the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls.
