Firemen Dig Out Hydrants

February 21, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Steve Bradley

On Monday evening, Hoosick Falls Fire Department members spread out through the second ward of the Village to dig out any fire hydrants that weren’t already accessible. The HFFD clearing crews did have to take a break to answer a call to assist the rescue squad on Church Street, then they were right back at it. [private]The Village Highway crew usually gets to the hydrants, but they have been so busy cleaning up from the storm and maintaining the equipment that the fire department didn’t dare to wait any longer. The firemen requested that anyone who has a fire hydrant nearby make an effort to clear the snow out from around the hydrants as soon as possible after a snowstorm. The ten minutes lost to find and access a hydrant may be the difference between saving a home or a family.
