South Cambridge/Hoosick Falls – On Wednesday, January 29, 2014, William “Wade” Hayden, 81, was called to Heaven. He was a native of Hoosick Falls, NY, born on June 27, 1932, and the son of the late John Joseph and Eleanor Wade Hayden.
Wade was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy in 1950 and SUNY Cobleskill in 1956. He went on to serve his country during the Korean War from 1951-1953, as a Private First Class in the United States Army. On August 20, 1955, he married his beloved wife and companion, Sandra J. Curtice.
Best known to comrades, friends and family as Wade, Wade-O, Pop or Poppy, he worked for 37 years with Niagara Mohawk Power Company. He also owned a small farm on the outskirts of South Cambridge, NY, on which he worked diligently for most of his life. He was a founding member of the Spike Horn Hunting Club of North River, NY, and enjoyed hunting in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains. He was an active member of American Legion Post #634.
Wade was a charter member of the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery Honor Guard Association, which was formed in July 1999. He had been the squad leader of the Thursday burials since the formation of the Honor Guard Association. His patriotism and love for his country was undying and remained the core of his character.
Wade was a loved and respected part of the community and will be missed by all who knew him, most of all, by his large and loving family. He is survived by his wife, Sandra J. Hayden, of South Cambridge, NY, brothers, Robert Hayden of Florida, Richard Hayden of New York, NY, and Donald Hayden of Hoosick Falls, his four children, Margaret and husband Scott Rogers of Easton, NY, Norman Hayden and Andrea Eaves of Queensbury, NY, Bridget and husband David Bromirski of Cambridge, NY, and Mary Hayden-Cook and husband Aaron Cook of Johnsonville, NY, and his most treasured gift of all being his ten grandchildren, Joshua and Zachary Wilcox, Alyssa and husband Nicholas O’Brien, Adam Hayden and fiancé Lisa McConnell and Kaitlyn Hayden, Shea, Amelia and William Bromirski and Hayden and Reilly Cook, his two great-grandchildren, Kinley O’Brien and Rylie Hayden Broe. Lastly, he is loved and missed by his faithful English springer spaniel, Abigail.
He is pre-deceased by his father and mother, John Joseph and Eleanor Hayden, his sister, Eleanore Hayden, and his brother, Joseph Hayden.
Per Wade’s wishes there will be no immediate services. The arrangements are being coordinated through Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090. A memorial service will be held at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in the summer. Memorial contributions in Wade’s memory may be made to the Saratoga National Cemetery Honor Guard Association or Patriot Flight through the Mahar Funeral Home.
