Petersburgh – Betty Lou “Betty Boop” Steller, 87, widow of Robert Steller, a resident of Rabbit College Road, in Petersburgh, NY, died peacefully on Monday, February 24, 2014, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, VT, surrounded by her family.
Born in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, on January 9, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Fred E. and Hazel (Burlison) McLain. Betty received her education in the Mt. Vernon schools.
Betty and Bob were married in Whitestone, Queens, NY, on September 9, 1947. Bob died August 10, 2009.
Betty was a homemaker all of her adult life and also worked at the soda fountain at the Woolworth’s store in Bennington for several years. She enjoyed knitting, ceramics and embroidery.
Betty’s family would like to sincerely thank the entire staff and administration at the Vermont Veterans Home for the outstanding care, love and compassion that was shown to both Betty and Bob during their illnesses. You have all become part of our extended family over the years, and we are eternally grateful to you.
Survivors include her faithful pal, Zoey, a daughter, Nancy L. Van Der Kar and husband Jack of Hoosick Falls, NY, three sons, Stephen T. Steller and wife Simone of North Petersburgh, NY, Howard J. Steller and wife Jessica of North Hoosick, NY, and Fred E. Steller and wife Vicki of North Petersburgh, nine grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty is pre-deceased by an infant daughter, Donna D. Steller, a son, Robert H. Steller, a grandson, Howard Steller III, and two sisters.
Memorial services celebrating the life of Betty Steller were held from the Four Chaplains All Faiths Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home on Friday, February 28, at 3 pm with Chaplain Kenneth Coonradt officiating. Friends called at the Chapel on Friday from 2 pm until the time of the service.
Burial took place at the family lot in Flushing Cemetery, Queens, NY, on Saturday, March 1, at 11 am.
