A small crowd gathered at the Bed Race finish line at the corner of Main and Elm Streets to cheer on the four teams pushing their wheeled contraptions down Main Street. The weather on Saturday, March 1, was downright chilly, but sunny. The Bed Race was just one of the many events that day that were part of the HAYC3 sponsored Hoosipalooza III.
[private]As usual the Hoosick Falls Kiwanis Club Chicken and the red underwear clad bed pushers surged to the front and maintained their lead throughout the race. The First Place Trophy went to the Kiwanis Club. The Most Creative Trophy was presented to the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad Youth Group.

The trophy for the Funniest competitor was presented to Immaculate Conception Parish and the

Disqualification Trophy was presented to the teachers from HFCS as they started from the First Baptist Church and cheated! The race began at the Village Primary Care building, a block further away.
After the race everyone warmed up at the Armory to music played by the HFCS Jazz Band, conducted by Bill Brown.
In two large trees behind St. Mark’s Church and visible from Eberle Way are five wind chimes. Also part of the day’s activities and titled Whimsical Winds.
At the Armory, after the Jazz Band, there was art work to create and music to create with the Otha Day Drum Circle. A performance by the Twirlettes rounded out the afternoon’s activities.

Hathaway’s Benefit
Everyone who attended the late afternoon and evening events at the Armory was there to help keep Hathaway’s Drive-In open. The owners of the landmark outdoor theater, Duane and Betsy Greenawalt, have been struggling to raise the $70,000 needed to purchase the digital equipment necessary to show first run movies starting this year. Garry and Kelly Brown of Brown’s Brewery pitched in to help. In the Owl’s Nest guests paid to hear Brown’s Marketing and Sales Director Gregg Stacy’s interesting lecture on the history of beer. They also had an opportunity to taste several of the brews with a variety of foods to accompany them.

That event was followed in the Percy Room, the main room of the Armory, with a night at the Brewvies. Guests purchased tickets that got them a cup of Weeb’s famous fish chowder, a Jean’s meatball slider and a Bagels ‘n’ Brew’s whoopie pie. Brown’s beers were available as well. While dining, folks could watch three movies without sound; Jaws, The Godfather and a Charlie Chaplin film while listening to the music of Blues guitarist-singer Billy Gilbert. It was fun! The Greenawalts were there with Hathaway’s T-shirts and cotton candy for sale. The event raised over $2,000 to support the Drive-In.
