The Music and Art Café will present Duo Eamon on Friday, April 25, at 7 pm at the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center. Duo Eamon is the Williamstown-based duet comprised of Cassandra Cleghorn on fiddle and Jeffrey Levine on guitar. Their newly released CD, Duo Eamon, will be available. Tickets cost $5.

Fiddler Cassandra Cleghorn and guitarist Jeffrey Levine play original arrangements of traditional tunes from Ireland, Quèbec and New England. With a wide following in the Northeast, Duo Eamon are known especially for sensitive waltzes and airs and for high powered jigs and reels.
Cassandra Cleghorn is a poet, professor of English and American Studies at Williams College and plays the violin with passion. Jeffrey Levine is a poet, publisher/editor-in-chief of the award winning Tupelo Press in North Adams and provides the perfect harmonic accompaniment. Together they create an accomplished, lively and elegant interpretation of traditional music.
“‘Tradition’ doesn’t mean ‘old,'” said Cleghorn. “Some of the tunes we play come from as far back as the 1600s, but many are by contemporary folk composers who pay musical respects to their ancestors through the tunes they write.”
For centuries this music has been played for contradances in barns and granges throughout New England and Quèbec.
The Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center is located at 71 Main Street, Petersburgh, and is available for meetings, weddings, performances, sports events and social gatherings. It is a not for profit 501c3 dedicated to community building in the Taconic valley and beyond.
