On Tuesday firefighters made quick work of a fire at Taconic in Petersburgh. The fire began at around 6 am in the exhaust ductwork and extended to materials that were stored on the floor at Building 1. The Petersburgh Fire Department and Ambulance, the Berlin Fire Department and the Grafton Fire Department were on the scene for about 90 minutes.
[private]The fire was able to be found with the use of a Thermal Imaging camera that was purchased last year with money donated to the Fire Department by Taconic. The Department was able to work with Garrison Fire Supply to purchase a camera that had been used for demonstrations for $58,000, about half the cost of a brand new camera.
Using this tool firefighters were able to see where the hottest spots were in the ductwork with a visible picture and actual temperature on the camera screen. After a quick knock down crews spent the rest of the time ventilating the building. There were no injuries to employees or firefighters.[/private]
