On August 20, 2013, Petersburgh’s Alissa Babcock and her family received word that she was recommended and accepted by peers, instructors and community leaders to participate in the People to People Student Ambassador Program. Acceptance into the program was based on a demonstration of leadership and citizenship, a desire to learn about diverse cultures and a willingness to venture into the world in the name of peace, friendship and understanding.

Following a nomination from an unknown source, Alissa received an invitational letter to participate in the program. She was required to complete an application and an interview process similar to that of a job interview.
On June 30, 2014, Alissa will be traveling overseas to Australia for twenty days with approximately forty-five other students from the Capital Region. As a requisite she must document her unique experiences with the Australian culture in a journal. Alissa also receives credit towards her high school education as an added bonus.
Alissa said, “This opportunity is one of the greatest opportunities given to me since high school began! I am looking forward to learning about the different culture in Australia, particularly the wildlife and sea life.”
Congratulations and cheerio Alissa Babcock!
