April 25, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Steve Bradley

With outside practice hard to come by, the HFCS girls lacrosse team has struggled in the early season. After suffering through some one-sided losses, the team was looking to get its first W in the books.

On Monday the Ladies traveled up to Schuylerville to face the Black Horses on their always perfect for competition turf field. The Ladies returned from the trip on the losing end of a 16 – 6 score. Jordyn Haynes had three goals. Hannah Fricke scored twice, and Dana O’Malley added one.

The Ladies were winless coming into their matchup with Cohoes Tuesday afternoon. But a win against Cohoes on Tuesday was not to be. Although the Lady Panthers played hard and had times when they were in control, they fell short at the end of the game, 16 – 11. Jordyn Haynes had five goals; Dana O’Malley scored two with Paige Graney and Caytlyn Springer adding one goal each. Goalie Kara LaFlamme had six saves, and Zaynah Poore had 3.

A Win On Wednesday

The Ladies faced Schenectady on the HFCS field and won, 10 – 9, for their first win of the season. Hannah Fricke had five goals. Dana O’Malley had two and Alyssa Houghton, Caytlyn Springer and Jordyn Haynes each had one. Goalie Zaynah Poore had 12 saves. Caytlyn Springer scored her goal 12 seconds into the game, breaking Keri Wilkins record of scoring twenty seconds in.

The Panthers are now 1-2 in league play, 1 – 5 overall.

The Ladies play Friday, April 25, against Emma Willard in Troy with a 4:15 start. A travel game to Burr & Burton High School on Saturday, April 26, begins at 11 am. Then Monday, April 28, finds the team playing Holy Name on the HFCS field at 4:15. On Wednesday, April 30, the team travels to Albany Academy for a 4:15 start. Finally, on Friday, May 2, the team travels back down Route 7 to play Schenectady at 4:15.

Boys Get Second Win 15 – 2

The HFCS boys lacrosse team is on a two game winning streak, the first in the history of the program. Tuesday the team traveled to Maple Hill High School where they defeated Maple Hill 15 – 2. Mark Hackett, Nick Schrom and Matt Sprague each scored three goals to lead the way. Noah Labarge and Cole Votra each scored twice, Charles Whitman and Jake Bakaitis each added a goal. Goalie Chris Shielding had eight saves.

On Thursday, April 24, the team faces Lansingburgh. On Tuesday, April 29, the boys play Johnstown and on Thursday, May 1, the team plays Schuylerville. All games will be held at the Hoosac School Athletic Field and will begin at 5 pm.
