The Town of Hoosick Lions Club held its 54th Annual Penny Hunt in Wood Park on Saturday, April 12. The weather was absolutely perfect with a beautiful blue sky, bright sunshine and lovely warm temperatures. [private]The new pennies sparkled in the sunlight as Lions members tossed them in the air so they scattered in the grass in the Penny Hunt area. The three and under crowd needed help from parents, grandparents and loving adults to help them find the pennies and to understand that they should pick them up and put them in their little bags or baskets. No matter, Ben Stratton of Hoosick Falls managed to find that magic coin that won him an Easter basket.

The girls and then the boys in the ages four through six categories were old hands at collecting their coins in the Penny Hunt. They knew exactly what to do. Jenna Smith of Bennington and Drew Wrubleski of Hoosick Falls were the basket winners in that category.

The girls and boys in the ages seven through nine category have the event down to a science and quickly find the pennies. Winners were Lucy Haynes and Luke Hoag, both of Hoosick Falls.
The Hunt is followed by the egg toss for ages 10 and over. A few adults are always in the mix. This event is fun to watch as the two lines of raw egg tossers get further and further apart. As usual, someone always get splattered. And, of course, at the conclusion, the winner’s high five is done with eggs in hand. Ugh! The winners this year were Owynn Arnold and Scott Shays of Hoosick Falls. They received pizza gift certificates for their efforts.
