An Alert Hoosick Falls Citizen Helps Nab Alleged Thief

May 30, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson

According to Hoosick Falls Police Chief Robert Ashe, on Thursday, May 22, the Police Department investigated a report of a Larceny of items that consisted of guard rails, pipe valves and assorted pipe from the fenced in Hoosick Falls Village Highway yard. The items were being stored for use in construction projects within the Village and had a value of about $5,000. [private]The Chief said that around 6:30 in the morning an alert citizen noticed the items in the back of a pick-up truck. He checked with the Village Highway Department, and they confirmed that items had indeed been taken. The Police were notified and given a description of the truck. Officers contacted scrap yards within the area and a subject was identified as bringing those particular items in.

That same day Police Officers arrested 54 year old William Kohls of 114 Church Street, Hoosick Falls, and charged him with Grand Larceny 4th. He was remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail with no bail. Another individual has been identified in the case, and an arrest warrant has been issue for 26 year old Fred Stager.

“Because of an individual being aware of his community and taking action, this case was solved within a short period of time,” said Chief Ashe. “This is what happens when citizens get involved.”[/private]
