May 2, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson

Hoosick Falls Police Chief Robert Ashe said that on Saturday, April 26, Officers from the Department responded to a report of shots fired in the area of River Street. When they arrived they noticed “unknown subjects” fleeing from the area. The Officers located bottles on the ground that appeared to have exploded. Officers located two juvenile males who admitted they had been setting off “Bottle Bombs.”

[private]Chief Ashe said, “The bottle bombs are a very dangerous mixture of a chemical that, when properly mixed and sealed, will cause an explosion.” Depending on the container, he said, the mixture can become very explosive and can cause serious damage to property as well as human life. Fortunately, in this case, there was no damage to property or life.

One of the bottles was located intact, and the Rensselaer County HazMat Team and the New York State Police Bomb Squad were notified and responded and secured the bottle.

A total of five boys, ranging in age from 14 to 16 were arrested. Chief Ashe said four of them will appear in Family Court and one will appear in Village Court.

Investigating Officers were Paul Alexsonis, Guido Gabriel, Bernie Davock and Steve Coonradt.[/private]
