HFCS Wellness Day

May 30, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson

It’s been a tough year for the students and staff of Hoosick Falls Central School with the loss from cancer of beloved teacher Isabel McGuire. Students have also lost parents. Teachers have lost loved ones as well. Many were affected by the loss of young Stephen Colvin in a skiing accident this winter.

This year’s Wellness Day, held in the school gymnasium,  focused on these issues and many more. Students wandered through the exhibits on dating violence, the dangers of energy drinks, substance abuse, problem gambling, prescription drugs, stop DWI and resources for help such as the Hudson Mohawk Recovery Center, the Cancer Center and the American Cancer Society Hope Club. Fr. Tom Zelker and Rev. Jonathan Youngmann were there to offer community support and to listen whenever and wherever possible.

Junior and Senior High students visited the exhibits during their lunch and study periods on Thursday, May 22.
