Hoosick Falls Memorial Day Events

May 23, 2014 By eastwickpress

submitted by Gail Smith on behalf of the American Legion

Bernie Guerard, American Legion Commander and this year’s Chairman of the Memorial Day Parade calls all officers and members of all organizations together with the general public to participate in our local parade to honor our military men and women, past and present.

[private]At 7:45 am, the American Legion Honor Guard, the American Legion Auxiliary and H.F.C.S. High School Band will line up at Wood Park to march to the Shop Street Bridge (where Church Street meets Mechanic Street) for a ceremony to honor those who were lost at sea. The Legion will fire a volley salute, then taps will be sounded by a H.F.C.S. trumpet player. Then the procession will march to Wood Park to raise a new flag. There will be a salute by the American Legion after which wreaths will be placed at the WW I, WW II, Korean and Vietnam Monument.

Don And Esther Bogardus Are Grand Marshals

The Memorial Day Parade will kick off at 10 am. All participants are asked to be in line by 9:15 am, with inspection at 9:45. It is only fitting that Don Bogardus, past organizer of the Hoosick Falls parade, and his wife, Esther, will be our Grand Marshals this year.

Voice of a Vet has made arrangements with the Hoosac School to provide a bus to transport veterans who would like to participate but are unable to walk. If you are interested in riding, please contact Gail Smith at 686-9888 so we can be sure to have adequate seating for all who would like to be participate.

Following the Parade, community members are asked to stay for a brief ceremony in Wood Park where elected officials and others will pay homage to our servicemen and women.

Following the morning’s festivities, all are invited to gather at the American Legion Post 40 for an Open House. Come one, come all!

Members of the Legion and its Auxiliary challenge you to take time out of your day of activities to join us as we recognize, honor and celebrate those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you!
