Lacrosse And Softball Seasons End; Baseball Continues

May 23, 2014 By eastwickpress

For the first time in HFCS boys lacrosse program history, the Panthers made the Sectionals. As a number seven seed, the team had an uphill climb. After the short road trip Tuesday to Greenwich, the Panthers hoped to make an impact in the Class C playoffs.

It wasn’t to be, however, as the number two seeded Witches jumped on the Panthers early and often, getting out to a 7 – 1 halftime lead. The Witches went on to win the game, 15 – 2. Damon Dubois scored both goals for the Panthers, and Chris Shielding had 12 saves in goal.

The team ended with a 5 – 9 record. This is a fine record and shows the progress this team has made. Most of these players never played a lacrosse game until 3 years ago. As time goes on this sport has the potential to become a local fan favorite. There is plenty of scoring, continuous action and occasional body hits. Lacrosse is an entertaining game to watch.

Baseball In Sectionals

After defeating Greenwich 3 – 1 in their final regular season game last Thursday, the Panthers had to wait until Monday to find out their seeding in the Sectionals. When the pairings were announced, the Panthers were seeded number three in Class B. They will face number six seeded Voorheesville Thursday, May 22, on the HFCS field at 4 pm.

Softball

The Panthers softball season came to an end last week in Tamarac. The Panthers fell to the Bengals 19 – 1 after giving up 12 runs in the first inning. Liz Ryan went 2 for 3, rapping out a double and a single. The Panthers finished the season 6 – 13 overall.
