This Saturday, May 3, you are invited to join us at Hoosick Falls Community Alliance Church, 484 Hill Road, Hoosick, for Memoirs of War, as we recognize and celebrate the contributions of our local servicemen and women. Doors will open at 2 pm for the public to view exhibits and period costumes by the Hoosick Township Historical Society and artwork by World War II Veteran Bill Bovard.
From 3 to 5 pm, a multimedia presentation will take us back in history. Video clips, newspaper clippings and historical displays will all help give a better understanding of how our local servicemen and women’s lives were intertwined in the annals of world history. Among other things, you will be captivated by a video depicting the key role the Hoosick Falls 105th Infantry played in bringing to termination World War I after months of stalemate during the Battle of Somme, a piece of history that is little known, even in local circles.
Refreshments will be served, and at the end of the program family members will read letters their loved ones wrote home from the war zone. You will find the program enlightening and intriguing and will likely come away with a greater appreciation for those who served and a greater sense of pride for our fair community.
Memoirs of War is a collaborative effort between the Hoosick Township Historical Society, Voice of a Vet, Heroes at Home and the American Legion. For more information, contact Gail Smith at 686-3269 or 686-9888.
