Robert L. Smith

Hoosick – Robert L. Smith, 86, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2014, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. He had resided on Fox Hollow Road in Hoosick, NY, with his wife Mary (O’Dell) Smith.

ob-smithBorn on November 4, 1927, in Petersburgh, NY, Robert was the son of the late Alvin G. and Blanche (Greene) Smith. He attended schools in Hoosick Falls, NY. Robert was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1944 to 1946. He was in the invasion of Okinawa on Easter Sunday in 1945 and served there for a year until coming home in 1946. Robert owned and operated the Twin Stream Farm on Fox Hollow Road. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors, other than his wife Mary, include their sons, Keith and wife Lise Smith of Hoosick Falls and Matthew and wife Debra Smith of Four Oaks, North Carolina, his brother, Peter J. Smith of New Mexico, and his sister, Barbara Dougherty of Massena, NY. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Briana, Sara and Mack Smith and Austin and Hunter Cardone, and his great-grandson, Cooper Deering. Robert is pre-deceased by two sisters, Louise Guertin and Mariam Plenzig, and brother, John A. Smith.

Funeral services are Friday, June 27, at 11 am from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090. Burial will follow the service at Hoosick Rural Cemetery, Hoosick.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital through the funeral home.
