The Berlin July 4th Parade Committee invites the public to the 2014 July 4th Parade. The Parade will be held on Friday, July 4, at 11 am. This year, in celebration of Independence Day, the Committee has chosen the theme “Imagine This.” Civic, school and church groups, businesses and individuals, both in and outside the community, are invited to participate. It is not necessary to follow the theme; it is offered only as a guide. There is no entry fee, and prizes are awarded.
[private]The Grand Prize float is awarded $125. Other float award categories are Best in Theme, $100 first prize and $75 second prize, Funniest, $75 first prize and $50 second prize, and Prettiest, $75 first prize and $50 second prize. Ribbons are awarded for horses, cars, boats, antique equipment and marching groups. Costumed walkers as well as costumed riders on horses will be judged as one group with ribbons awarded to the winners. Bikes must be decorated to participate in the parade. Due to legal restrictions, no ATVs will be allowed except for those pulling a float with a rigid support.
Prizes will be awarded to the best appearing Fire Company as well as the Fire Company with the most firemen in line.
If you or your group would like to participate, you may phone 658-3010 or 658-3936 or email berlinjuly4thparade@yahoo. A parade is only as good as its participants, and we look forward to having you join us this year. Let’s celebrate Independence Day with another great parade!
Support The Tradition
Since most of our Parade expenses are paid with funds contributed by individuals and businesses, we must once again ask for your financial support. Please make your contributions payable to “The July 4th Parade Committee” and mail them to July 4th Parade Committee, P.O. Box 66, Berlin, NY, 12022. For more information please call 658-3010 or 658-3936.
Parade Route And Time Schedule
9:30 am – all participants arrive at Berlin Elementary School. Judging will begin promptly at 10 am. If floats are not present at this time, they may not be judged. The Parade Committee requires this time to line up the various contingents so that the Parade can begin on time. Upon arrival, all parade participants must check in at the registration table located on the front lawn or school steps.
11:00 am – Parade steps off promptly!
Parade Route
From the Berlin Elementary School north on School Street to Park Avenue; left on Park to Route 22; right on Route 22 to North Main Street. Proceed south on Main Street to the end. Motorized units turn right on Route 22 and return to Berlin Elementary School via Southeast Hollow Road. Walkers do not need to return to the school. They may turn left onto Route 22 and return to the firehouse via Park Avenue.
Following the Parade, refreshments will be served to all participants at the firehouse, compliments of the Berlin Fire Company.
Attention
We are concerned for the safety of everyone (especially the children) along the Parade route, and therefore we are urging participants in the Parade to refrain from throwing any items from moving vehicles.
If candy or other items are to be given out, please have someone walk beside the float or vehicle and hand these items out.
We also request no sirens being blown during the Parade. We need to know that a siren blowing means there is an emergency and they need to get through traffic.[/private]
