The First Annual Kay ten Kraft Memorial Workshop was held on June 13, sponsored by the Heritage Spinners and Knitters of Stephentown, a group that included knitters from Pittsfield, Stephentown, Berlin and Albany. The workshop presented instruction and materials for knitting and making felted bowls.

The workshop was to honor the memory of Kay ten Kraft. Kay was a major resource and well known in the tri-state area and beyond as an accomplished spinner, weaver, dyer and knitter. She was a mainstay on the craft show circuit in the northeastern U.S. selling custom dyed wool and roving. She was very active on Ravelry.com and other knitting venues.
The event raised $375. The money raised will allow the Stephentown Library to augment the current selection of over 200 donated books that are available for sharing throughout the Upper Hudson Library System. The Stephentown Library’s fiber reference section was established last year in memory of Kay.
Laurie Kimmelstiel took the knitters through how to knit, felt and shape the bowls. The felting process in the washing machine was demonstrated along with the procedure for blocking and shaping.
The Heritage Spinners and Knitters meet at the Stephentown Library on Friday afternoons.
