On Saturday, July 5, at 7 pm Hubbard Hall Projects will present Music from Salem’s first summer season concert “Over There: A Remembrance of World War I.” This concert, which is part of Hubbard Hall’s Celebration Weekend, is in honor of the centennial of World War I and includes Elgar’s Piano Quintet in A minor and Zemlinsky’s String Quartet No. 2.

Both works, one English and one Austrian, were written during and shortly after WW I and were influenced by the tragic events of the war and also contain very personal references. They are epic pieces on a grand scale, incorporating both difficult memories and heart felt compassion. Violinists Judith Eissenberg and Calvin Wiersma, as well as cellist David Russell, rejoin MfS directors Lila Brown, viola, and Judith Gordon, piano, for this very special concert.
The July 5 concert will take place at 7 pm at Hubbard Hall Mainstage in Cambridge. Admission is pay what you can, so everyone can attend ($20 suggested).
