TVHS Student Nick Despart Receives RPI Medal

July 3, 2014 By eastwickpress

submitted by Michael A. McCagg, TVHS Communications Coordinator

Tech Valley High School Class of 2015 student Nick Despart received the RPI Medal during a recent ceremony. If Despart, from Berlin, enrolls in RPI in 2015, he will earn scholarships totaling $60,000 over the four years of his schooling there.

The RPI Medal recognizes the superlative academic achievement of young men and women and seeks to motivate students toward careers in science, engineering, and technology. This $15,000 a year merit scholarship is guaranteed for four years for each medalist who is accepted and enrolls to RPI.

To receive the RPI award, Despart ranked in the top 10 percent of his class, excelled in advanced math and science and took four years of math, including pre-calculus. He also had to complete biology, chemistry and physics and demonstrate potential for success in a challenging academic setting.

“This is wonderful news for Nick and recognition of his hard work,” said TVHS Principal Dan Liebert.
