August 29, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Steve Bradley

An accident at the corner of High and Danforth streets sent two women to the hospital early Wednesday afternoon.

[private]A woman going to work at The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, driving a Toyota Prius, was traveling south when she slowed to turn onto Danforth Street. The Prius was then rear-ended by a woman driving a Hyundai Santa Fe. The Prius was shoved across the street onto a lawn, narrowly missing a fire hydrant. The Santa Fe came to rest in the south lane of High Street. Both vehicles received extensive damage to the collision areas. No skid marks were visible at the scene. Both women were removed from their vehicles by the Hoosick Falls Rescue Squad.

The woman in the Santa Fe was placed on a backboard immediately after removal from the car. She was transported to Southwest Vermont Medical Center in Bennington by the Cambridge Rescue Squad. The Prius driver was fitted with a neck brace and placed in the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad for transport to SWVMC.

The Hoosick Falls Police Department and the Cambridge and Town of Hoosick Rescue squads responded to the scene. The Hoosick Falls Fire Department also responded and aided with traffic control and clean-up.
