Nicholas S. Homiak

Berlin – Nicholas S. Homiak, 73, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 26, 2014. Born on April 8, 1941 in Paterson, NJ, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Julia (Kreel) Homiak.

ob-Homiakpic_cropNick loved his family, hunting, fishing, family picnics and the beautiful valley of Berlin; most of all he loved the Lord.  He worked as a bus mechanic and as a plumber. He retired from Albany Medical Center in 2003.  As a member of the First Baptist Church of Berlin he served faithfully in several ministries.

He was the beloved husband of Marilyn (Rea) Homiak; loving father of Nicholas H. and Sherry (Chapel) Homiak, Christine (Homiak) and Jeffrey Dugrenier and Douglas S. and Carla (Russell) Homiak; grandfather of Martin and Hilary (Pitman) Tobin, Sean and Kristin (Urzan) Tobin, Nicholas and Kaiti (Killeen) Homiak, Douglas and Kazie (Furcinite) Homiak and Kassandra Homiak and her fiancé James Babb; great-grandfather of Mason and Jaxson Homiak; brother of the late David Homiak whose wife Pearl survives; uncle of Mark, Daniel and Dominique, Jason and Holly; great-uncle of Joshua and Dimitri; also survived by an aunt and several cousins.

A celebration service of Nick’s life will be held on Monday, August 4, at 11 am in the First Baptist Church of Berlin.  Burial will follow in the Berlin Community Cemetery.  There will be no public calling hours.  In lieu of flowers, contributions, in Nick’s memory, may be sent to the First Baptist Church of Berlin, (please designate for Deacon’s Fund), 35 North Main Street, Berlin, NY, 12022.  Services provided by the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home of Petersburgh, NY.
